What is the AACN CCRN exam?

CCRN is a certification exam issued by the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) that leads to the CCRN certification. It covers clinical practice for nurses caring for acutely and critically ill patients in intensive care environments.

Registered nurses and advanced practice registered nurses take it in hospital intensive care units, progressive care units, emergency departments, and transport teams. The designation is recognized in United States acute and critical care workplaces, including hospitals and specialty care centers.

They take the exam to document specialty preparation in critical care nursing and to qualify for roles centered on acutely ill patients. The resulting AACN credential identifies a nurse's focus on critical care practice for employers and professional advancement.

This course is organized into 2 chapters, one per official CCRN exam domain.
